U.S. Silica Holdings is looking for a dynamic Regional Environmental Manager who has real experience in site and/or Company level Environmental Health and Safety program development and management to join the company’s Ottawa team. U.S. Silica Holdings is a leading producer of commercial silica used in the oil and gas industry, and in a lot of industrial applications. Over its 117-year history, U.S. Silica has developed core competencies in mining, processing, logistics and materials science that enable it to produce and cost-effectively deliver over 260 products to customers across our end markets.

The Company now operates nine industrial sand production plants and eleven oil and gas and production plants. The Company is headquartered in Frederick, Maryland and has offices in Chicago, Illinois and Houston, Texas. At the direction of the Plant Manager of the Ottawa facility, and with dotted line responsibility to the Ottawa Environmental Health and Safety Manager and the Plant Managers at the Utica, Peru and Rochelle facilities.

The Regional Environmental Manager will work with operations leadership and site employees to make sure the environmental programs at the Utica, Peru, Rochelle and Ottawa sites are developed, implemented and practised consistently to promote compliance and a safe work environment adhering to regulations and the Company’s and site’s environmental policies and ways. This individual should have real experience in site and/or Company level EHS program development and management.

Regional Environmental Manager Job Functions

Overall Environmental Program Leadership: This position will be housed at the Ottawa, IL site and serve as the primary environmental site lead for the Ottawa facility, and will also provide environmental support for other USS facilities in the Midwestern US. This position will work with the site managers, site operations and maintenance teams and site employees to maintain regulatory compliance, safe work environments and procedures and the highest levels of environmental protection practices and develop a culture where EHS is integrated at all levels. Responsibilities may include: air, water, waste, safety, industrial hygiene, EHS training, incident investigation and EHS metrics reporting

Lead Environmental Compliance Processes Ottawa facility: Maintain and obtain needed permits to support compliant operation. Implement regulatory and company required programs about, air, water, waste, stormwater and spill prevention, control and countermeasures (SPCC). Develop and submit required agency and internal company reports. Implement company required environmental management and auditing programs.

Complete tasks needed to meet the requirements/conditions of environmental permits and programs and support site expansion. Support waste management including inspecting and preparing shipments for transportation. Ensure compliance with the NPDES, Clean Air Act, Title V, Storm Water, and other environmental permits by completing assigned tasks such as sampling, reporting and inspecting. Contribute to pollution reduction and recycling efforts.

Regional Environmental Manager Requirements, Skills and Abilities

– Bachelor degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science or equivalent science degree.
– At least 7 years of experience at a site and/or Company level environmental/EHS management role in a manufacturing environment and/or surface mine.
– Experience with Title V air permits, NPDES, SPCC and other environmental compliance programs.
Must have the ability to establish relationships at all levels
– Excellent oral and written communication skills.

– Computer skills are a must with knowledge of MS Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
– Ability to handle multiple assignments, meet strict project deadlines within established parameters.
– Work extended hours, weekends or nights as needed, especially when problems occur or the business demands that deadlines must be met.
– Travel between facilities will be required for meetings, site compliance activities, cross-facility audits, or professional development opportunities.

Licensing Or Other Special Requirements

– Requires a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
– Knowledge of MSHA, OSHA and EPA regulations is required.
